Our history

Giacomini & Gambarova s.r.l., owned by the Giacomini family, was founded in 1910 and since then it has developed steadily to become a world leader in coconut flooring. Significant investments in technology and ongoing searches for innovative products have enabled the company to achieve excellent standards of quality and productivity, without ever neglecting environmental sustainability, as demonstrated by our use of 100% recycled materials and applies a quality management system according to ISO 9001:2015. The Company has been in this business for more than 100 years, thanks to its wise combination of a family environment and cutting edge technology, ready to satisfy customers' needs.


The Giacomini family's business adventure began with the foundation of a small company mainly dedicated to the import of spices from India.


First imports of coir yarn from India to the company in Tezze; flooring production began with 120 workers employed in weaving the materials.


After the break in business due to the First World War, production started again with renewed energy and enthusiasm.


During the Second World War, despite the embargo on coir yarn from India, Egidio found a way to continue the production of doormats using a particular plant root found on the Piave riverbed, while the rugs were produced using cellulose paper yarn.


After the war, driven by economic growth and headed by the second generation of the Giacomini family, the company was launched on a gradual and constant upward path, employing more than 200 people and outsourcing part of the work to pieceworkers.


The Bishop of Vittorio Veneto, Don Albino Luciani – who would later become Pope John Paul I – took part to the celebrations for the 50th anniversary of the company's founding.


Purchase of a machine patented by a Greek citizen that totally revolutionised the traditional processing, allowing the company to produce cutting-edge, quality items. At the same time the company was merged with Gambarova, based in Milan, ensuring a wider distribution for their products.


Launch of the VELCOC brand.


A company called Texma, specialised in the processing of synthetic fibres, was founded in Mareno di Piave to diversify the production of traditional coir rugs.


The shareholder running the sales department sold his holding and allowed the Giacomini family to gain 100% possession of the company. In the same year, the management changed: Egidio Giacomini, the founder's grandson, became the new CEO, giving birth to a new era for the VELCOC brand.


With the fundamental help of his staff, Egidio Giacomini founded Kerafibertex Int. Pvt. Ltd in Kerala, in the South Western India, in order to ensure supplies of coir yarn.

Mindful of its flourishing past and looking towards the future, the Giacomini family continues to make investments. Four generations, one hundred years of history and thousands of products sold all over the world make Giacomini & Gambarova a company of international calibre.
